A leading UK retail group is seeking a commercially minded Employment Legal Counsel to join its collaborative in-house legal team. This is a high-impact role offering variety, autonomy, and the chance to shape employment practices across a large, people-focused organisation.

The Role

You’ll provide strategic legal advice on a wide range of employment law matters, working closely with HR and ER teams. From handling Employment Tribunal claims to supporting policy development and large-scale consultations, your expertise will help drive fair, compliant, and effective people practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on all aspects of employment law including disciplinaries, grievances, redundancy, discrimination, and whistleblowing.
  • Manage Employment Tribunal claims end-to-end, including advocacy at preliminary hearings.
  • Draft and review employment contracts, policies, and procedures.
  • Support internal investigations and consultations.
  • Deliver training and legal updates to stakeholders.
  • Deputise for the Senior Employment Counsel when needed.

About You

  • UK-qualified solicitor specialising in employment law.
  • Strong communicator with excellent drafting and analytical skills.
  • Able to deliver pragmatic, business-focused legal advice.
  • Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally.
  • In-house experience is welcome but not essential.
  • Hybrid working model – 3 days onsite at a South Yorkshire-based office.
  • Annual bonus – up to £9,000.
