Energy Trading & Portfolio Manager — Remote position — £70,000 - £85,000

Our client, a leading and fast-growing energy consultancy, is seeking an Energy Trading & Portfolio Manager to join their Pricing and Risk Management team. The business delivers integrated energy management services, including procurement, energy audits, compliance, data analytics, and bureau services, to I&C energy users across the UK, with ambitious plans to expand into European markets.

In this high-impact role, the successful candidate will lead the management of a growing portfolio of flexibly traded clients, developing and executing trading strategies, managing market exposure, and optimising client outcomes. They will also play a pivotal role in winning new business, supporting account management, and enhancing trading systems and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Trading & Hedging: Buy and sell electricity and gas on behalf of flexibly traded clients to secure optimal pricing.
  • Portfolio Strategy: Design and implement trading strategies aligned with the company\'s risk management framework.
  • Client Engagement: Act as the lead contact for flexible trading in sales processes, supporting field sales and attending client meetings.
  • Account Management Support: Provide trading insights, cost reporting, budget forecasts, and performance analysis.
  • Tool Development: Support the evolution of trading and reporting systems to improve client service.
  • Training: Deliver training to colleagues on commodity markets and trading practices.

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years\' experience in pricing, risk management, and trading portfolio methods (supplier and/or consultancy).
  • Strong understanding of financial markets; commodity market knowledge highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain trading decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Commercially astute, decisive, and confident making decisions under pressure.
  • Highly numerate with advanced Excel skills; experience with ETRM systems preferred.
