Join to apply for the Engineer - Development Infrastructure role at Sweco.
We are looking for a talented and motivated Engineer to join our dynamic Development Infrastructure team in Cambridge. This full-time role offers flexible working conditions, with a minimum of three days in the office and the option for adjusted start and finish times. You will help create innovative solutions to today’s global issues, contributing to sustainable designs that address needs now and in the future, providing integrated multi-disciplinary consultancy services to our clients.
You will be involved in a diverse range of private sector projects, including residential, energy, and commercial developments. From project inception to detailed design and construction, your contributions will span:
- Civil engineering
- Section 104, 38 & 278 agreements
- Highways and earthworks design
- Drainage, flood risk management, and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
- Site appraisal
- Construction Design and Management (CDM)
What does the role involve?
Working as part of the Development Infrastructure team on a variety of projects in the residential, energy and commercial sectors, you will act as an Engineer to undertake and check the delivery of design solutions and coordinate with other disciplines. You will be involved in projects from conception to completion, including supporting the Project Manager to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, milestones, and methodology; undertaking elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs (e.g., calculations, models, drawings, sketches, reports) to achieve the optimum solution; and documenting and communicating design changes to the Project Manager.
You will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of your work, ensuring it is delivered in line with agreed timescales and in compliance with our Company Integrated Management System and relevant health and safety legislation. You will have opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues and, as you develop, take on greater responsibility within projects.
This is an exciting time to join Sweco. If you want to be part of a company that is small in the best ways but large enough to provide a diverse and exciting workload, this job is for you.
To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Have
- A collaborative attitude and a desire to work in a team
- An academic qualification, such as a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, ideally accredited by the Engineering Council to support your professional qualification progress
- Relevant post-qualification engineering design experience and project delivery in residential, energy and commercial sectors, including understanding of S104, S38 and S278 agreements
- Minimum of three years’ post-graduate experience for the Engineer position
- Experience in civil engineering infrastructure modelling software (ideally Civil 3D, or other comparable software such as PDS, OpenRoads); some AutoCAD experience is essential
- Experience of drainage design tools (InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, Flow)
- Proficiency in MS Office 365
- Experience in resource or commercial management on projects
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with an ability to find quick, innovative, and practical solutions
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet project timescales
- Willingness to travel to sites and offices within the UK when required; driving license is helpful but not essential
What’s in it for you?
From day one, you will receive the training you need and be embedded in a team that cares about your development. With an open structure, there are ample opportunities for career progression. You will be assigned a workplace mentor to guide you on your path to gaining professional recognition with your chosen institution.
If you believe you have the skills and are keen to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s transform society together at Sweco.
