Overview

We are looking for a UK based Engineering Manager to help run our Community Experience (CX) squad, a key team focused on providing a best in class customer support experience through facilitating excellent interactions between Depop and our users. You will guide your team while delivering impact on its roadmap and contribute to our engineering culture of high performance and high compassion. You will manage all engineers in the team and collaborate with a Product Manager and Product Designer as part of the wider Marketplace initiative, focusing on helping users access the help they need within the app during their journey.

As an Engineering Manager at Depop, you will be responsible for the success, wellbeing and effectiveness of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Value and Drive Results: Ensure your team delivers high-quality solutions that meet business needs, with a strong focus on delivery and measurable value.
  • Lead and Support Your Team: Manage a cross-functional team of 3-7 engineers, ensuring they are happy, motivated, and set up for success. While hands-on work is encouraged, your primary focus is enabling the team to perform at their best.
  • Foster Growth and Feedback: Be accountable for the team’s performance and career growth, providing regular feedback, guidance and coaching through 1:1s and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with marketing, analytics, engineering, and product to align on goals, define priorities, and ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration.
  • Build an Inclusive Culture: Advocate for team health, inclusion and diversity, and foster a respectful environment that encourages continuous learning and improvement.

You’ll Be An Excellent Fit If You Have

  • A proven track record as an Engineering Manager building high-performing engineers, teams, and processes.
  • Experience in the CX product space or with customer service solutions (e.g., Zendesk, Intercom) and the ability to leverage these from Engineering and Product perspectives.
  • A strong engineering background and comfort leading from a technical standpoint.
  • Ability to work across the full stack and provide connective tissue between back-end and front-end to uphold high engineering standards.
  • Ownership mindset with a track record of delivering high-quality features and solving complex problems.
  • Strong decision-making skills based on data in the face of ambiguity, with a bias toward delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to achieve results.
  • Ability to drive positive interactions and change within the team.
  • Alignment with Depop DNA: commitment to community, collaborative support, purpose-driven work with sustainability and cost awareness.

Bonus Points If

  • Interest in agentic AI and desire to contribute to a fast-growing company leveraging AI.
  • Experience with technologies such as Swift (iOS), Scala, Java or Typescript.
  • Familiarity with observability, data pipelines and related tooling.
  • Previous experience in an app-first business.
