Engineering Manager - Bristol, UK
About the Role
Engineering Manager
Full-Time, Contractual
Location: Gloucester Business Park & Aztec West (Bristol), 3-4 days a week in office.
Are you ready to lead one of the most ambitious engineering projects in the UK’s energy future? If you thrive on solving complex challenges, enjoy guiding others to success, and are passionate about helping Britain reach Net Zero, this could be your next big move. Join us at EDF UK as an Engineering Manager and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of nuclear energy at Hinkley Point C.
The Opportunity
At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new series of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes. This is your chance to be part of a once-in-a-generation project.
As our next Area Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the Conventional Island (CI) area, including the Turbine Generator systems and Building. You’ll tackle complex technical challenges, provide strategic direction, and collaborate with teams across the UK and France to deliver a project vital to the UK’s energy future. Your leadership will help drive innovation, ensure technical excellence, and support the transition to a low-carbon world.
Pay, Benefits & Culture
In addition to a competitive salary of £75,000, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, flexible benefits, and more. Our benefits include enhanced parental leave, electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, product discounts, critical illness insurance, technology vouchers, gym membership, and season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility and support collaboration, whether you're in the office, on-site, or working remotely. Our priority is to ensure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated. We foster an inclusive environment that champions equity and diversity, reflecting our commitment to social mobility and broad representation.
We support your career journey, understanding that success is personal and varies for everyone. Please let us know if you need reasonable adjustments during the application process.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll provide strategic technical leadership across the CI-BoP Area, ensuring safety, quality, time, and cost are prioritized. You’ll guide your team through engineering challenges, make key decisions, develop long-term strategies, manage risks, and maintain technical integrity. Collaboration with delivery programmes, construction teams, and technical experts across the UK and France will be essential. You’ll also manage a team of engineers—supporting their growth, overseeing recruitment and training, and ensuring they have the skills needed to succeed.
Who You Are
You have a strong foundation in engineering, ideally with a degree or equivalent qualification, and experience leading in complex, multidisciplinary environments. Your leadership style is collaborative and inclusive, capable of uniting diverse stakeholders. You can manage large budgets, navigate technical and commercial challenges, and engage confidently with specialists across mechanical systems, safety cases, and materials science. Experience in the nuclear industry and understanding of regulatory frameworks are advantageous. Most importantly, you are driven by purpose and eager to contribute to the UK’s Net Zero journey.
Closing date for applications is Sunday 3rd August. Interviews will follow shortly after. Additionally, you must meet Security Vetting criteria, generally requiring UK residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
