We’re building the infrastructure that will power the decentralized future.
As a fast-growing tech company, we’re looking for builders and innovators — people who thrive in the face of uncertainty and are motivated to make an impact. We are also looking for true teammates - people who are genuine, humble, and driven to level up together. If you're excited to shape the future, contribute to an energetic company culture, and work at the cutting edge of blockchain technology, we want you to join our team and help us lead the charge!
About the opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead Figment’s protocol indexing team. You’ll manage software and data engineers who research blockchain protocols and build scalable, reliable indexing pipelines that power analytics, reporting, and staking services.
This is a full-time remote position for candidates working in the Eastern North American or European time zone.
As an engineering leader within our product engineering organization, you'll support your team through technical direction, career development, and execution oversight while creating a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
How you will make an impact
Lead & Grow the Team
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of high-performing engineers through regular 1:1s, direct feedback, and career planning
- Support the professional growth of your team members, helping them develop both technical and soft skills
Set Technical Direction
- Own the architecture for protocol indexers and data pipelines in Python and Go
- Design for scalability, observability, and cost efficiency; champion testing and reliability
- Define data contracts and schemas with downstream consumers
- Plan for chain-specific realities: reorgs, forks/upgrades, backfills, and catch-up strategies
- Partner with Product, Data Science, and Data Availability teams to prioritize business-impacting indexing work
- Advocate for platform investments (refactors, tooling, CI/CD, data quality) with clear ROI
- Translate roadmap into measurable outcomes
Deliver Results
- Own team planning and prioritization across maintenance, improvements, and new protocol coverage
- Apply Kanban principles to visualize work, limit WIP, and manage flow; monitor cycle time and lead time
- Define and meet SLOs for data freshness, accuracy, and coverage
- Drive incident response, postmortems, and preventive improvements
Build an Inclusive Culture
- Foster a psychologically safe team culture rooted in respect, transparency, and curiosity
- Facilitate effective communication within the team and with cross-functional stakeholders; remove ambiguity quickly
- Continuously improve by running effective retrospectives
What you bring to the team
- 5+ years in software or data engineering, including ownership of production data systems in cloud environments.
- 2+ years managing engineers (ICs), with proven hiring, performance management, and growth outcomes.
- Hands-on enough to review production code in Python or Go and set technical direction
- Fluency with data modeling, data quality frameworks, and warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake/BigQuery)
- Strong cross-functional collaboration with Product and Analytics to define data contracts and SLAs
Nice To Haves
- Blockchain/Web3 familiarity (staking, validator economics, Proof-of-Stake).
- Operating remote, distributed teams across countries and time zones.
- Observability at data and service layers (metrics, tracing, lineage, data contracts).
Teams you’ll collaborate with most often
In addition to collaborating with your Data Engineering teammates, you'll work closely with:
- Data Availability – Coordinating on protocol research, data ingestion, and reliability
- Data Science & Analytics – Building systems that enable advanced analytics and business intelligence
- Product Engineering – Integrating data needs across our Apps, APIs, and rewards reporting
You Might Be a Great Fit If You:
- Are a product/customer-focused thinker
- You measure success with objective delivery metrics (freshness, accuracy, coverage, cycle time)
- Are comfortable managing both execution and people, and can balance long-term system health with short-term deliverables
- Value mentorship and continuous learning as much as technical outcomes
- Enjoy turning ambiguity into structure and building a data culture grounded in craft, collaboration, and impact
- Thrive in collaborative, dynamic environments and are excited to lead high-performing engineers in building reliable, scalable data systems
