Engineering Technical Lead

As an Engineering Technical Lead at the FA, you will be responsible for leading the software engineers within your Pod (Team/Value stream). You will be key in ensuring your Pod builds the right thing in the right way. This is a technical leadership role responsible for the end-to-end development of a suite of FA applications. Working primarily within a Microsoft-based technology stack, the role serves as the central point for all development activities. Key responsibilities include establishing coding standards, implementing quality assurance processes, and overseeing the work of developers. The ideal candidate will wear multiple hats—acting as an architect, delivery manager, engineer, quality assurance, mentor, problem solver, and collaborative team member—ensuring both technical excellence and alignment with business goals.

What will you be doing?

  1. Collaborate with solution architects, application architects, and data engineers to develop solutions meeting delivery goals.
  2. Identify and capture work that needs to be done, including dependencies external to the team.
  3. Onboard new team members and manage the impact of any leavers.
  4. Monitor team health, ensuring contribution, growth, and psychological safety.
  5. Lead and develop a high-performing, cross-functional team through mentoring and coaching.
  6. Establish, uphold, and champion team norms and engineering standards.
  7. Participate in technical discussions and architecture decisions to guide quality and scalability.
  8. Support agile practices and continuous improvement.
  9. Enable DevOps practices, including CI/CD and Kubernetes deployments.
  10. Promote a data-driven culture by defining and tracking key performance metrics.
  11. Drive innovation, experimentation, and process improvements.
  12. Align with stakeholders on priorities and maintain a clear technical roadmap.
  13. Review code regularly to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
  14. Optimize the developer experience for increased productivity.
  15. Monitor production services proactively to identify issues early.
  16. Provide meaningful challenges and constructive feedback to engineers.
  17. Assess team capabilities and identify training needs.
  18. Assist Product Owners in breaking down requirements and estimating tasks.
  19. Communicate progress and impacts clearly to the Delivery Manager.
  20. Ensure quality is integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
  21. Encourage adherence to agile methodologies, including TDD, BDD, and pair programming.
  22. Support efficient user story flow and impediment removal.
  23. Stay updated with latest technologies and contribute to developer communities.
  24. Contribute to the wider FA engineering community of practice.
  25. Comply with company policies to maintain health, safety, and well-being standards.

Development experience using C# (.NET Core), ASP.NET, JavaScript, T-SQL.

Experience designing and maintaining MS SQL Server databases with change tracking / CDC.

Experience with Dependency Injection & IoC frameworks, ORM frameworks like Entity Framework and Dapper.

Experience building and consuming REST APIs in a microservices architecture.

Experience leading technical teams to successful delivery, including offshore and third-party teams.

Experience with unit testing, TDD, BDD, and security testing tools like Sonar.

Knowledge of software design patterns, n-tier architectures, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Additional beneficial skills include technical education, Microsoft certifications, high-volume web applications, Sitecore, mobile app development, Typescript, Angular, React/Vue, Azure messaging, and data factory experience.
