Purpose of the role
Colas Ltd. offers a great opportunity for a SHE Manager to join our team at the Portsmouth depot, PO6 1TA. The role requires travel to sites in Ringmer, Peacehaven, and Grantham biweekly. As part of the SHE team, you will provide leadership, support, and advice on SHE matters to improve overall SHE performance in accordance with legislation, company, and group policies.
Main Responsibilities
The SHE Manager will lead Safety, Health, Wellbeing, and Environment initiatives to ensure compliance with legislation and policies. The role involves site inspections, face-to-face conversations, delivering SHE training, providing emergency response advice, monitoring incident entries, investigations, and management rituals. You will identify trends, influence management, conduct internal SHE audits against relevant standards, and contribute to the development of SHE policies and procedures. Regular meetings and liaison with managers, partners, clients, and stakeholders are also part of the role.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has extensive management experience in Health and Safety, with knowledge of SHE management, audits, and industry standards, preferably within highways, construction, or production sectors. A minimum of NVQ Level 6 or equivalent qualification is required. Essential memberships include CMIOSH and/or PIEMA, along with a NEBOSH diploma or higher. Technical knowledge of Civil, Building, or Mechanical Engineering at HNC level or equivalent is preferred. Familiarity with management systems such as ISO 14001, 45001, 50001, and Highway Sector Schemes is necessary. The candidate should be dynamic, forward-thinking, with strong commercial acumen, leadership skills, and excellent communication abilities. A valid UK driving license is essential.
Package Description
We offer a competitive total package including:
- A salary between £55,000-£65,000 (dependent on experience) plus company car or allowance
