Job Description:
About the Role
Addressing climate change, meeting targets such as net zero, and creating a sustainable future for humanity are among the biggest challenges society faces today. Scientific measurement plays a key role in understanding the Earth system, identifying innovation potential, and ensuring innovations deliver as intended. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) sets the standards by which these are measured. NPL is the UK's National Metrology Institute, an internationally respected center of excellence in measurement science, with over 800 scientific experts and extensive facilities. We collaborate with government, industry, and stakeholders to ensure reliable measurements.
The Environment team develops strategies to engage stakeholders, identify new science opportunities, and build scientific capabilities to create impact from science.
Purpose of the Role
- Conduct strategic analytical research to support the development of NPL's Environment strategy and programs, focusing on specific sectors or industry challenges to identify measurement needs.
- Engage early with stakeholders to develop NPL positions, involving literature searches and external interactions to identify future research or business opportunities.
We now operate in a hybrid working model, combining remote and office work, promoting work-life balance. Flexible working options are available depending on the role and business needs.
About You
- Experience in strategic analytical research and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- A degree in science is preferred; financial skills are a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of strategic research projects, including scoping, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.
- Perform policy, market, and technical research to identify measurement challenges and insights.
- Enhance NPL's profile through content-driven engagement with external stakeholders.
- Support business development and strategic planning efforts.
- Ensure health and safety responsibilities are met.
Timing
- Start date: ASAP
- Preferred working hours: Full-time, part-time considered
