Your mission
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Defence Export Control Lead to establish and manage a robust Export Control Compliance Programme. This pivotal role will ensure that all transfers of technology, systems, and intellectual property between the UK, Germany, and other international locations are fully compliant with national and international defence trade regulations.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a proven ability to navigate the complexities of defence export controls.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Export Control Compliance Programme, policies, and procedures tailored to STARK’s UK and German operations
- Act as the primary authority and point of contact for all export control matters within the company
- Determine the export control classification of STARK’s products, technology, and software
- Prepare and submit export licence applications to relevant authorities (e.g., UK Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU), German BAFA)
- Monitor and interpret changes in export control regulations and advise internal stakeholders on potential impacts
- Deliver regular training and awareness sessions across the company
- Perform audits of export control processes and procedures to ensure compliance
- Investigate, report, and resolve potential export control violations
- Collaborate with engineering, programme management, and legal teams to ensure export requirements are embedded in project planning and delivery
- Proactively identify and resolve challenges to ensure project delivery and mission outcomes
- Maintain accurate and complete export control records.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable track record in defence export controls, with a strong understanding of UK and German export control regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of UK Export Control Order, EU Dual-Use Regulation and other relevant international regulations i.e ITAR, EAR.
- Experience in classifying defence products, technologies, and software under export control regulations.
- Proven success in preparing and submitting export licence applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and training skills
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
- Must be eligible or currently hold UK SC Clearance
- This position will be Swindon based with flexibility for remote working
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with both UK and European export control authorities
- Experience implementing and managing an export control compliance framework in a technology-driven organisation.
- Familiarity with defence weapon systems technology.
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, law, engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
