External Account Manager

Are you a passionate and dynamic External Account Manager looking for your next permanent role?
We are currently seeking an experienced External Account Manager to join our Aggregates team, covering areas within the South East, including East Anglia, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and surrounding areas.
You will be responsible for establishing dedicated relationships with external customers to maintain price, volume, and profit for key accounts, while enhancing product volumes and profitability through increasing VAPs across the customer portfolio. Knowledge of aggregates would be highly beneficial.
Main Responsibilities
As an External Account Manager, you will be the primary link between Tarmac and our key customer accounts, providing clear direction to enhance customer experience and strengthen relationships.
Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
- Manage a portfolio of external accounts to meet sales volume, price, and profit targets
- Identify opportunities to improve cash flow through effective trading
- Provide market intelligence on product demand and interest to support strategic planning
- Lead significant aggregate projects and develop plans to maximize Tarmac's potential in securing contracts
- Collaborate with Customer Service and Shipping teams to ensure seamless operations
- Prepare colleagues and teams for account requirements and service level agreements
- Review accounts regularly to identify improvement opportunities
- Report key metrics and performance issues to the Area Commercial Manager with solutions
You will liaise with stakeholders across the business, including the Commercial Director, Managers, Site Teams, Customer Services, Accounts, Technical, and HR.
A car is provided for this role; therefore, a FULL UK manual driving license with no more than 6 penalty points and flexibility for hybrid working are required.
The Ideal Candidate
Our ideal External Account Manager will have:
Experience:
- Managing and developing customer accounts
- Understanding of the sector's commercial aspects
- Cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proficiency with commercial tools and forecasting
Skills/Knowledge:
- Influencing, negotiation, and change management skills
- Understanding regional markets and the competitive landscape
- Drive and determination to succeed
- Ability to identify customer needs and develop solutions with comprehensive product knowledge
Flexibility in office location is available, but travel within East Anglia, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and surrounding areas is required.
