Overview
OPAL-RT Technologies is looking for an Application Engineer for the UK, with hybrid or remote work (anywhere in the UK).
OPAL-RT is a leader in real-time simulation, rapid control prototyping (RCP) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing for the design, testing and optimization of control and protection systems used in power grids, power electronics and electrical drives. Our solutions serve industries including energy, automotive, railways and aeronautics, and are used by R&D centers and universities. Clients include EDF, EADS, DCNS, ABB, GE ENERGY, RENAULT, TOYOTA, GENERAL ELECTRIC, SNCF, CEA, CERN, NASA, etc.
Mission
As part of the development of OPAL-RT Europe's activities, and under the supervision of the Technical Team Leader, the Application Engineer is responsible for the technical support provided both to OPAL-RT Europe's customers and to the internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- After-sales technical support: provide technical support to existing customers, manage projects and deliveries for new customers, commission the systems and train users.
- Pre-sales technical support: conduct feasibility studies or demonstrations for sales managers and projects.
- Maintain high standards of technical service and build good relations with clients and team members.
- Regular international travel (approximately 2 to 5 days, 1–2 times per month).
- Management of customer technical support and customer projects.
- Live processing of support tickets opened by customers.
- If necessary, request level 2 or 3 support and follow-up with the R&D department at the head office in Montreal.
- Follow-up of current projects in collaboration with the technical director.
- Participation in the purchase of equipment.
- Definition and execution of tests before delivery.
- Logistics follow-up of deliveries.
- Training & Commissioning: commissioning of our systems at customer site and on-site or remote user training.
- Pre-sales support: implementation of hardware and software demonstrators and product demonstrations at events (trade fairs, seminars).
- Carrying out feasibility studies for prospects and participation in the technical pitch to prospects.
- Supporting sales managers in the field.
Requirements
- Education: Diploma in the fields of electrical engineering (Bac + 5: Engineering School, Master's degree).
- Experience: Ideally significant experience in modeling complex systems such as electrical conversion and drives, mechatronic systems, control/command. Beginners accepted, depending on the profile.
- Languages: fluent in English.
- Job Competencies: Modeling Tools: MATLAB/Simulink.
