Overview Field Service Engineer - Electrical Bias is a full-time role based in Heybridge with hybrid working. Rolls-Royce Solutions UK Ltd Marine is responsible for the sales and service support of propulsion and power systems across naval, superyacht, commercial marine and land-based applications. The Field Service Engineer is expected to be an ambassador for the company with recognised technical expertise, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, including replacements, upgrades or additional works for Rolls-Royce Solutions UK supplied systems. The role also covers installation, commissioning and testing of new products. Contract: Permanent Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate compliance with and understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation applicable to the role. Carry out commissioning, service and repair of IPMS/AMS, propulsion and power systems to ensure products and systems are ready for operation. Install and commission switchboards and power management systems on vessels. Perform maintenance and fault finding on switchboards and power management systems. Share knowledge and support on-the-job development of others where appropriate. Identify and implement continuous improvement, transfer of best practices and adherence to processes and procedures. Provide emergency on-call coverage as part of the Service Engineers' call-out rota. Compile technical reports in a timely manner and to a high standard on completion of each job detailing the work undertaken and the reasons why. Anticipate and plan for issues and resolve problems by identifying root causes. Use diagnostic tools, methods and procedures to identify faults and determine root causes and communicate findings to the customer. Make judgments on technical problems with moderate scope and complexity where maintenance solutions may not be clearly defined by procedures. Support other service and sales activities as directed (e.g., attending meetings with other department representatives). Be responsible for stock control of parts and equipment in their care. Occasionally perform duties in the workshop and understand how the team contributes to business objectives. May be required to direct others on immediate basic tasks and provide technical support and guidance in-field. Undertake technical training as required.
Person Profile
Demonstrates the behavioral competencies required for this level; proactive and enthusiastic with good communication skills, able to work independently or as part of a team. Culturally sensitive with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels. Technically competent in Marine Propulsion and Power products; capable of using both traditional and PC-based diagnostics. Electrical competencies and basic mechanical skills; experience with switchboards (maintenance and diagnostics). Willing to travel extensively within the UK & ROI and may spend time overseas for product training (e.g., Germany) or deployment under CONDO arrangements. The job is physically demanding and requires delivering and communicating high standards expected of a blue-chip company.
Qualifications and Skills
Appropriate qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation & Maintenance or equivalent relevant qualification or demonstrable industry experience. Sound knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety best practices. Sign up for and pass CONDO Training (Contractor on Deployed Operations). Successfully attain full MoD Security Clearance. GCSE English and Maths or equivalent. Computer skills: Proficient in MS Office and report writing; on-the-job training provided for relevant business IT systems. Driving licence and passport: Full and clean driving licence, current passport for travel. Fluency in written and spoken English; literacy and numeracy competence.
