Financial Assurance Analyst

This secondment supports the University's Financial Assurance and Counter Fraud functions, helping ensure financial processes and controls are effective, compliant, and resilient against financial crime. You will contribute to an annual programme of departmental visits, gathering feedback, sharing good practice, and supporting departments to manage financial risk. The role also involves documenting risks and controls, addressing high-risk issues, and responding to departmental queries. Working closely with the team, you may develop assurance maps, analyse data from departmental returns, and support the introduction of improvements to financial processes across the University. You will act as a source of guidance on policies and regulations, and liaise with colleagues to ensure financial reporting supports assurance activity. The role offers hybrid working and regular departmental visits. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with senior finance colleagues, build knowledge of financial controls, and gain valuable experience for those working towards an accountancy qualification.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience.
- Enthusiasm for and in-depth knowledge and understanding of the University's financial processes and financial controls.
- A strong sense of purpose, with a demonstrable ability to influence senior University officers and accounting professionals, communicate difficult messages, and bring complex matters to conclusion.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to gain the confidence of colleagues across the University, encourage change and deal sensitively with difficult issues while holding units to account.
- High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly co-ordination, organisation, and the ability to focus on achieving deadlines, ensuring that timetables/project plans can be met.
- Excellent excel and IT skills, including ability to manipulate data and draw strong evidence-based conclusions.
- Ability to take the initiative to identify high risk areas and suggest options for obtaining assurance, with a strong sense of purpose and ability to understand complex environments.
- Excellent team-work skills and ability to work with colleagues across the Finance Division proactively.
