ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

The Shift Lead is a pivotal role within our firewall infrastructure team, part of Network Services under Group CIO. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing changes, resolving service issues, and supporting colleagues to deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers. The role also drives service improvements and introduces innovative, automated ways of working to boost organisational efficiency and effectiveness. This involves applying advanced software and automation knowledge to independently see opportunities for service transformation. We’re offering the chance to join a dedicated team that provides essential Checkpoint firewall protection across the organisation’s networks. As Shift Lead, you’ll be central to firewall support and project delivery, contributing to advanced third-party system designs and refining methodologies that enhance business processes across our technology architecture and infrastructure.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Sharing the responsibility of successfully protecting the 1 in 3 people who use our systems in the UK as well as our 10 million active online banking users. You can expect much of your time to be split between support and project work as we continually improve our offering to become the best bank for Customers.

There will be a 24/7 shift pattern in place which is designed to provide the most robust level of support to the services our customers rely on. As the senior Shift Team member you’ll need to utilise your technical skills and problem-solving ability to quickly resolve issues as they arise. Additionally, the role will include providing mentorship guidance and support to more junior shift members, including but not limited to work allocation and priority setting. You’ll also be expected to challenge existing processes and be an early adopter of change, viewing advancements in technology as opportunities to deliver better outcomes for customers.

Daily Activities

  • Acting as the key contact point for the bank’s critical Checkpoint Firewall infrastructure
  • Planning the implementation of sophisticated changes to upgrade the estate
  • Delivering changes of all sizes and complexities for customers
  • Monitoring the network and working with colleagues across the team and the wider IT community to identify and close down service-related issues
  • Providing leadership and guidance to shift members within your team
  • Delivery of infrastructure and service improvement plans, including gateway upgrades and new builds
  • Translating infrastructure blueprints into technical specifications and developing prototypes for simple infrastructure components

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • CCSE or equivalent experience with Checkpoint Firewalls
  • Understanding of network automation methods to investigate areas for improvement
  • Experience with network monitoring software and response procedures such as Dynatrace and SolarWinds
  • Good communication skills and the ability to approach technical problems in what can be complicated environments
  • Experience identifying infrastructure gaps and recommending initiatives to address them
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and is open to new experiences to intentionally grow individual and team skills
  • Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible and general automation capabilities would be beneficial
