Overview
The Environment Agency is seeking a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Advisor to join the Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) Team. In this technical leadership role you will influence complex planning decisions, support developers and local authorities, and drive innovative flood‑resilience solutions across East Anglia.
Responsibilities
- Use flood‑risk data, modelling and spatial planning expertise to influence Local Plans, Strategies and planning decisions.
- Evaluate flood‑risk assessments and provide expert advice to reduce risk and ensure safety of new developments.
- Influence Local Plans and Flood Strategy to embed flood resilience in future development.
- Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to build understanding and drive flood‑risk action.
- Represent the Environment Agency in written representation, hearings or inquiries.
- Mentor, coach and develop junior team members.
- Embed innovative solutions and new ways of working.
- Participate in incident response when flooding occurs.
Qualifications – Essential
- Experience in flood and coastal risk management and spatial planning.
- Independent decision making, strong teamwork and outcome focus.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Effective time management, ability to work under pressure and at pace.
- Delivery of work to time and quality standards.
- Problem‑solving capabilities, including embedding innovative solutions.
- Desire to progress learning and development for yourself and others.
Qualifications – Helpful
- Practical GIS software knowledge.
- Degree in engineering, geography, science or related field.
- Full UK driving licence.
