OverviewFlood and Coastal Risk Management - Advisor - Natural Flood Management (NFM) is a permanent role within the Strategy and Adaptation Department of the national Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. The role supports the £25 million NFM Programme through project tracking, grant management, and secretariat activities, and helps mainstream innovative NFM approaches into the wider FCERM investment portfolio. The position involves coordinating the NFM Community of Practice and responding to stakeholder inquiries. It can require leading specific workstreams such as environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, or asset management with initiative and independence. The role is hybrid, with some travel and overnight stays, and includes an incident response component with potential additional payment and training available. You will join a small, inclusive NFM Team and work with Defra and other partners to shape the future of flood resilience, set strategic direction, and drive innovation. ResponsibilitiesSupport the NFM Programme through project tracking, grant management, and secretariat duties.Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.Lead specific workstreams (e.g., environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, asset management) with initiative and independence.Contribute to mainstreaming innovative NFM approaches into the wider FCERM investment portfolio.Travel as required for hybrid working and incident response tasks. Qualifications and ExperienceA relevant qualification or experience in Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) or a related discipline is essential.Experience in Natural Flood Management – commissioning, funding, delivery, and identifying opportunities and barriers to upscaling.Project and grant management experience.Understanding of EA processes and governance (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance).Strong relationship-building skills with a range of delivery bodies.Clear, effective communication and strong digital/data skills (e.g., Power BI, Power Automate, tracking systems).Proficiency with GIS tools and spatial data analysis.
