Overview

Flood and Coastal Risk Management - Advisor - Natural Flood Management (NFM). This permanent role supports delivering and upscaling NFM across England as part of the £25 million NFM Programme, including project tracking, grant management, and secretariat support. The role also aims to mainstream innovative approaches trialled through the programme into the wider FCERM investment portfolio and to coordinate the NFM Community of Practice.

The role involves hybrid working with some travel and overnight stays. Responding to incidents is a central part of the role, with the possibility of an incident role, additional payment, and training/workplace adjustments provided to support incident response and business continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Help deliver and upscale Natural Flood Management across England as part of the £25 million NFM Programme.
  • Manage project tracking, grant management, and provide secretariat support.
  • Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Lead specific workstreams (e.g., environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, asset management) with initiative and independence.
  • Collaborate across teams to mainstream innovative NFM approaches into the wider FCERM investment portfolio.
  • Travel as required for role responsibilities; hybrid working with some overnight stays.
  • Be prepared to take on an incident role and provide business continuity support during incidents.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification or experience in Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) or a related discipline is essential.
  • Experience in Natural Flood Management – commissioning, funding, delivery, and identifying opportunities and barriers to upscaling.
  • Experience in project and grant management; understanding of EA processes and governance (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance).
  • Strong ability to build and sustain stakeholder relationships across a range of delivery bodies.
  • Clear, effective communication and strong digital/data skills (including coding, Power BI, Power Automate, and tracking/file management).
  • Proficiency with GIS tools and spatial data analysis.
