Flood and Land Drainage Engineer
This is an exciting opportunity to join our welcoming and well-respected district council in an interesting location and help us, our communities, and partner organisations become more flood resilient.
About the role
This role will:
- Lead in the discharge of the council’s responsibilities in respect of all flooding and land drainage matters. Knowledge of flood defence and land drainage systems is essential.
- Provide technical advice and assistance to landowners, including where appropriate the use of formal powers, to ensure the requirements of the Flood & Water Management Act, Land Drainage Act, and our Land Drainage By-Laws are met.
- Produce contract specifications and supervise contractors in carrying out schemes of work for community benefits.
- Support the council’s climate and sustainability priorities.
- Support the Planning Service by providing planning advice including Flood Risk Assessments, Emergency Flood Evacuation plans, and Natural Flood Management schemes.
The role also has temporary management responsibility for a member of staff 2.5 days per week to support your delivery of a community flood resilience approach (this is a council plan priority).
About you
You will hold an incorporated Engineer or equivalent relevant qualification with relevant applied experience. You will be a creative problem solver with a commitment to a customer- and community-focused approach, balanced with the requirements of legislation and regulation.
You will be an effective communicator, and display and promote the Council’s values and behaviours.
