Overview

Geospatial Developer & Data Engineer role at SLR Consulting. Senior Geospatial Developer & Data Engineer to join the Development & Innovation (D&I) team, working with a European team based in the UK or Dublin offices. You’ll be part of the Geospatial & Data Solutions (GDS) team, supporting internal and external clients and building scalable geospatial data pipelines, developing project lifecycle applications and digital solutions. Collaborate with Data Science, Project Delivery, and technical teams across Built Environment, Industry, Infrastructure, Mining & Minerals, Oil & Gas, and Power.

This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies including Esri products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online), Microsoft Azure, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and open-source platforms. You’ll contribute to broader development initiatives based on your skills and interests. The successful candidate will join a growing D&I team and help influence its direction, contributing to best practices, new initiatives, and collaboration across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, data scientists, and developers to deliver innovative geospatial and data-driven solutions.
  • Develop practical, user-friendly tools and analyses and automate data ingestion, transformation and loading using Python.
  • Build reproducible workflows and apply software engineering best practices.
  • Design, implement and optimise geospatial ETL pipelines (e.g. Airflow, dbt).
  • Collaborate on data-modelling and storage to support GIS and data science teams.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, workshops, and client engagements.
  • Stay current with geospatial industry trends and technologies.
  • Document code, processes, and findings to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the growth and direction of the D&I team by mentoring, improving processes, and fostering collaboration.

Skills & Experience

  • Advanced Python programming skills.
  • Experience with databases and SQL for handling large datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience with deployment and version control (e.g., Azure DevOps).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, or a related discipline.

Desirable

  • Experience in a commercial environmental consultancy.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data warehousing and analytics (e.g. PostGIS, Snowflake).
  • Proficiency in Esri technologies, including ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and ArcGIS Enterprise; experience building and scheduling ETL workflows (Airflow, Azure Data Factory, dbt).
  • Knowledge of spatial data management and geospatial queries.
  • Experience with containerised app development (e.g., Docker).
  • Understanding of GDPR compliance.
  • MSc in Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field.
