GIS Analyst - (LLPG & LSG Gazetteers)
New Yesterday
Job description
Help shape the quality of Derby’s address and street information. Are you methodical, detail-focused, and confident working with structured data, with a good grasp of structure and logic? We’re looking for someone to take responsibility for Derby’s official address and street datasets – the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) and Local Street Gazetteer (LSG). These national datasets underpin everything from emergency response to waste management, and keeping them up-to-date and accurate is essential. Although the job title is "GIS Analyst", this particular post is Gazetteer-focused – it is not a GIS mapping or spatial analysis role. You will work alongside GIS colleagues, but your primary responsibility will be structured address and street data.
About the role
You’ll manage the maintenance and regular publication of our LLPG and LSG datasets, ensuring they meet national standards and support key services across the council. This includes:
- Updating and cleansing property and street data
- Submitting daily and monthly updates to GeoPlace
- Investigating and resolving data anomalies and errors
- Liaising with departments to ensure address accuracy and compliance with BS7666
- Handling internal and public address-related queries
You’ll also support improvements to address-related processes across the organisation and help ensure our data is aligned with other key systems.
About you
We welcome applicants with direct gazetteer experience – but we also encourage those with transferable skills from other domains to apply. You might have worked in planning, highways, data administration, or another role where accuracy and structure are critical. You should be able to demonstrate:
- An organised, methodical approach to information management
- Comfortable working to established rules and formats
- Strong attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
- Confidence working with structured data spreadsheets, databases
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
- Willingness to learn relevant data standards BS7666, Data Entry Conventions
- An ability to interpret and apply rules or standards (technical guidance or codes of practice)
Familiarity with address systems, gazetteers, or standards such as the Data Cooperation Agreement would be an advantage but is not essential.
Important information about eligibility
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. You must already have the legal right to work in the UK on a permanent and unrestricted basis. This includes UK citizens, those with indefinite leave to remain, and those with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
