Responsibilities

  • On-site inspection, testing and repair of the stator, rotor and exciter windings of large high voltage electric generators.
  • Perform winding inspection, electrical testing, maintenance and repairs on Generator HV windings on customer sites globally.
  • Carry out basic mechanical strip-down (and rebuild) of machines to access generator windings.
  • Carry out electrical testing on high and low voltage windings in the field.
  • Conduct visual winding inspections of the stator, rotor and excitation system.
  • Perform on-site generator winding repairs including stator re-wedge work.
  • Work as part of a team for on-site stator strip and rewind operations.
  • Assist mechanical service engineers on assignments, which may not involve winding activities.
  • Supervise and train internal and external customers.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications and requirements; prepare method statements and detailed reports for customers. Attend on-site technical meetings.
  • Carry out on-site risk assessments for each assignment and record details on the provided form.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the Field Service Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Accredited Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification or relevant experience; minimum qualification through a recognised Craft apprenticeship in stator winding on large high voltage rotating electrical machines.
  • Experience on competitors’ equipment is advantageous.
  • Competent in soldering, brazing, crimping and HV insulating procedures.
  • Self-sufficient, resourceful and a problem solver.
  • Strong character and high energy levels.
  • Effective communication in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to undertake extensive overseas and offshore work, often for extended periods.
