Graduate Electrical Engineer (Transmission & Distribution) – Edinburgh or Glasgow – start June 26 onwards
AECOM is seeking graduates to join our Transmission and Distribution team in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices from June 26 onwards. This role involves development, design, and project support across transmission and distribution assets, with regular site visits to substations, cables, and overhead lines.
Responsibilities
- Work on transmission assets in the UK and Republic of Ireland, with potential involvement in projects in Europe and occasional international travel.
- Provide development, design, maintenance and project management support for services across HV/LV systems, substations, cabling, protection, SCADA, and interconnectors.
- Attend site visits to construction sites for substations, cables and overhead lines.
- Engage in initial concept to detailed design work under supervision, including: conceptual design, power network design and studies, load and demand forecasting, substation design and site selection, grounding and earthing, lightning protection, HV cable studies, and interconnector studies.
- Develop and apply skills in Power Systems Analysis using tools such as DigSILENT, PSCAD, PSS/E; perform system stability analyses and other technical studies.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver design, environmental and consenting work within a joint venture context (AECOM Arup).
- Engage with industry bodies (IET, IEI, CIGRE) for networking and professional development.
Qualifications
- BSc/BEng in Electrical/Power Engineering, typically 2:1 or above; MSc/MEng would be advantageous.
- HV & Power coursework completed; experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D preferred; Python or scripting skills advantageous.
- Strong numerical skills; ability to work in a team and independently; excellent written and verbal communication with clients and stakeholders.
- Good Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong research and report writing abilities; attention to detail.
- Enthusiastic, hard-working with ambition and drive.
Desirable
- Full driving license and willingness to travel occasionally (site travel with equipment may be required).
