Responsibilities
- Be part of a ground-breaking initiative dedicated to reducing carbon emissions through advanced carbon capture and storage infrastructure, making a tangible impact on environmental sustainability.
- Work closely with senior leadership as the trusted advisor on all tax matters, influencing strategic decisions while collaborating with industry bodies and government stakeholders.
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies that align with business operations and long-term objectives, ensuring all activities support compliance with relevant regulations.
- Oversee full compliance with UK tax laws, including those specific to carbon capture, energy, and regulated infrastructure sectors, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation across project financing, operational expenses, revenue recognition, and other key financial areas.
- Prepare and submit accurate corporate tax returns, VAT filings, and all statutory submissions required by authorities.
- Manage half-year and year-end audit processes related to taxation, ensuring transparency and accuracy in all reporting activities.
- Advise senior management on the tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, restructuring initiatives, or new business ventures as they arise.
- Act as the main point of contact for internal teams and external stakeholders such as HMRC, OFGEM, auditors, and industry bodies regarding all tax-related queries.
- Monitor evolving tax legislation at both national and international levels to assess potential impacts on business operations.
- Provide international tax advice for cross-border projects within the company’s portfolio.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing detailed analysis of current and future tax liabilities.
What you bring
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline is essential for understanding complex financial frameworks underpinning this role.
- Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA is required; CTA accreditation would be highly advantageous for handling intricate tax scenarios.
- Experience in tax management within energy, oil & gas, carbon capture industries or regulated infrastructure is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in UK corporate tax compliance with strong planning skills.
- Experience managing VAT issues alongside international taxation matters.
- Advanced skills using accounting software (such as SAP) and specialised tax reporting tools.
- Strong analytical abilities and the ability to interpret complex regulations to identify practical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging with internal teams and external stakeholders including regulators.
- A methodical yet proactive approach with attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Fluency in English is essential for clear communication within an international context.
