Overview

Group Project Accountant – Hybrid working at our office in Wimbledon. We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Group Finance team.

As the Group Project Accountant, you will provide support to the Group Financial Controller (and BU FCs as required), including leading and/or managing financial and management reporting and control processes, supporting change across Financial Control, and overseeing the production of high-quality financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • People and culture: Support the creation of a culture of innovation and change across the team and set the standard for the wider finance team; support the development of a high-quality finance team.
  • Oversee the production of month-end results, variance analysis, and opportunities and risks vs budget for the financial year to leadership.
  • Manage the provision of accurate and timely financial reporting (monthly/annual) across all reporting bases (UK GAAP and IFRS).
  • Provide technical accounting input including consideration of wider impacts (e.g., tax, solvency) and approve material accounting adjustments; proactively resolve technical matters and document them fully.
  • Review and challenge existing processes and ways of working to support continuous improvement and use of technology.
  • Support embedding IFRS 17 calculations, processes and controls with a view to accelerating the month-end process.
  • Support compliance with the Financial Risk Control Framework, ensuring controls are completed and documented to a high standard to support external audit requirements.
  • Work with the FRCF manager and BU FCs to align and standardize processes and controls across the group and lead changes across the BUs.

Stakeholders

  • Build strong relationships across the business, including FP&A, Underwriting, Client Management and Service teams.

Other

  • Provide support/lead on project activity as required.
  • Act as a delegate for the Group Financial Controller as required.
  • Assist with ad hoc finance projects and provide support to the Director of Corporate Finance.

Skills And Experience Required

  • Experienced senior manager with the ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels of the business including senior stakeholders.
  • Confident, a self-starter, with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and good judgment.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices with ability to make sound day-to-day accounting decisions; insurance accounting knowledge is preferred but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of corporation tax, VAT, and IPT.
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining a robust and effective control environment with appropriate documentation.
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment, including Solvency II reporting requirements preferred.
  • ACA Qualified accountant or similar.
  • Business and commercial awareness.
  • Systems: knowledge of Workday, Cognos (Adayturn) preferred but not essential.
