What you'll do
Viasat has transformed the market for assured Data at Rest solutions and is rapidly growing its business where we are looking for a System Design Engineer to work across multiple Cyber and Information Assurance (IA) development projects within Viasat Government. You will work on the development of leading-edge products and applications within the security and Cyber industry.
The day-to-day
You will work in a fast-paced environment as part of a multi-disciplined team across all aspects of standard and bespoke secure digital design solutions. As a Hardware Engineer on our team, you will be involved in all aspects of a challenging and rewarding engineering role covering design, test production support and customer unit evaluation and commissioning.
- Ownership of the design and delivery of hardware throughout the development lifecycle
- Specification and design of high speed digital boards for products and test equipment
- Schematic capture and support of PCB layout
- Co-ordinate design with Mechanical, Software and System engineers
- Hardware design proving testing
- Support to software and system testing
- Support to manufacturing, resolving test and production issues, training production staff
- Resolution of design, obsolescence and production issues on existing products
- Integration of Data At Rest products in to customer platforms
What you'll need
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar field
- Full development life-cycle experience
Must havesole British Nationality (due to UK eyes-only projects), and have, or be capable of obtaining, UK security clearance (SC).
- Good understanding of electronic design fundamentals, high speed digital design and signal integrity.
- Proven track record of digital circuit development.
- Comfortable with hardware testing and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power supplies and multi-meters.
- Proficient with industry standard CAD toolsets (e.g. Cadence or Mentor Schematic & Layout Tools)
- Excellent communication skills - both written, verbal and with the ability to communicate at all levels
- Effective and flexible team player
What will help you on the job
- Experience supporting production
- Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodologies and techniques
- Embedded firmware design (C/C++/assembler/Python).
