Overview

Head of Admissions, King’s College School. The post is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing admissions across the Junior and Senior Schools, including 7+ to 16+ entry points, and coordination with Wimbledon Common Preparatory School. The role supports the school’s development plan, access through bursaries, and the commencement of a new junior school campus. It involves representing the school to prospective families, ensuring an exceptional admissions experience, managing the admissions team and related staff, and contributing to the school’s aims in representation and accessibility in pupil admissions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for admissions across the school and manage day-to-day admissions activity to support the school’s priorities.
  • Lead and manage the admissions team and the bursaries and access officer, directing related staff to deliver an exceptional admissions experience at King’s events.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with feeder schools and prospective families to sustain appropriate pupil applications and improve representation and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure admissions processes align with the school’s ethos of Mind, Spirit and Heart and run across both junior and senior campuses.
  • Represent the school externally to maintain its status as a first-choice destination for talented candidates and their families.
  • Lead on safeguarding and welfare considerations in admissions in line with school policy and statutory requirements.
  • Utilise digital technologies and information management systems to support admissions activities and data-driven decision making.
  • Engage senior leaders to model collaboration, empower the admissions team, and drive improvements in admissions practice.

Qualifications and qualities

  • Senior-level leadership or management experience, with significant experience in school admissions or a closely related field.
  • Strong alignment with King’s values and mission; able to operate effectively in an independent school environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with other senior leaders and staff to achieve school-wide goals.
  • High standards, professionalism, diplomacy, and a proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Strategic, data-driven mindset with the ability to analyse and act on admissions data.
  • Understanding of GDPR, admissions codes of conduct, safeguarding, and complex school environments.
  • Ability to engage diverse communities and senior stakeholder groups; adaptable communication style for different audiences.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and to making King’s education accessible through bursaries and outreach.
  • Competence in project management, resilience under pressure, and a willingness to be involved in day-to-day school activities.
