WHAT TO EXPECT You will be a data-driven and commercially astute individual supporting the development of a long-term strategic business plan for JLR.
You will play a key part in shaping the company’s response to industry transformation, including electrification, digitalisation, and evolving regulatory landscapes. The role will work closely with teams across Strategy and Finance chapter to lead the work on creation of a Business Plan through rigorous analysis of market trends, competitor activity, and internal performance data. Based on the analysis, the business plan scenarios/enablers will be modelled out. Subsequently, preferred scenarios will be chosen to create detailed a final Business Plan cash up.
You will lead the alignment of the Business Plan with the key stakeholders at CEO/Board level.
The role will support in creation of succinct update/output for JLR’s key Governance milestones such as Board meetings, EBR etc.
THE ROLE Key Responsibilities
Target Setting & Alignment
- Lead the development of long-term EBIT/Variable Profit/ROCE targets (5-year horizon and beyond) aligned with corporate growth aspirations and shareholder expectations.
- Alignment of targets and assumptions with CEO, Board and ELs (particularly Brand MDs and RDs).
- Conduct the market and competitor analysis (big shifts in consumer preferences/ macro-economic, regulatory environment).
- Deep-dive analysis of key risks on volume/revenue in global marketplaces (NA, EU, China, Middle East, etc.); example of risks - BEV adoptions, local competition, recession etc.
- Cost benchmarking (Variable + Structural), margin pressure, and market shifts through competitor and market trend analysis.
- Develop robust business scenarios incorporating macroeconomic trends, regulatory shifts, competitive dynamics, and technology disruption.
Creation of detailed Business Plan - Enablers to Target & Investment Allocation
- Work closely with workstreams/Corp Strategy team to create detailed roadmap for achievement of the Target structure across all the workstreams by driving cross-functional planning initiatives in collaboration with Sales, Product. Strategy, Operations, and Finance teams. Define risk-adjusted strategies to ensure resilience and adaptability in long-term performance.
- Create a consolidated long-term investment requirement to enable achievement of the Target. Ensure investment is backed with detailed business case and benefits to enable prioritization and decision making in the scenario of multiple demands.
- Create the Business Plan, which is a cash up of the above enablers, their returns, risks to Target, and mitigation strategy.
Governance & Execution Tracking
- Establish disciplined review cadences of Business Plan and Investment for JLR Board / EL event.
- KPI dashboards to monitor progress against long-term goals (led by BeX team).
- Support annual and mid-year strategy refresh cycles with updated financial forecasts and course-correction levers.
Cross-functional Leadership & Influence
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO/Board—translating financial insights into actionable strategic direction.
- To seek consensus and alignment from the Board, design EBR agenda with clear deliverables from Business Plan perspective for each EBR for e.g., June EBR for approvals on Target, Sep EBR for Enablers to Targets and full investment view and their scenarios, Dec EBR for fully cashed up Business Plan, Feb EBR final approved Business Plan.
Team Management
- Lead and develop the team, role modelling Creators’ Code, lead Performance Transformation through objective setting, check-ins, feedback and recognition. Ensure healthy succession.
Key Performance Indicators
- Share the early view of Enablers to Target Structure in conjunction with Corporate Strategy team by Sep/Oct EBR.
- Working closely with Finance to share the sensitivities to Target Structure by Sep/Oct EBR.
- Create a consolidated long-term investment requirement to enable achievement of the Target. Ensure investment is backed with detailed business case and benefits to enable prioritization and decision making in the scenario of multiple demands. This KPI to be completed by Sep/Oct EBR.
- Fully Cashed Business Plan by Dec EBR.
- Finalise the Business Plan for final approval by January ’25 PLC.

- All 1st line of Strategy, Innovation and Ventures Chapter and Workstream leads of Zenith.

- Demand & Supply Balancing Director, IO Chapter.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Substantial and demonstrable experience in Corporate strategy/ finance /management consulting ideally within automotive sector.
- Experience leading or influencing C-suite stakeholders with clarity, credibility, and insights.
- Proven track record of shaping long-range financial plans at a corporate or divisional level for a new / existing business.
- Strong command of product portfolio economics, market strategy, and financial modelling.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to translate changes in the external market environment into clear, data driven insights and recommendations.
- Ability to develop an independent strategic view on key business plan input assumptions (e.g. volumes, variable and fixed costs, investment, etc).
- Ability to guide teams to conduct competitor and market benchmarking to inform and validate our business plan assumptions.
- Advanced experience in investment appraisal including sensitivity/stress test analysis.
- Track record of leading teams and delivering against tight deadlines in demanding environments.
- Ability to think “big picture” and challenge the JLR status quo (active not compliant approach).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills (including at CEO/Board level).
- Good influencing skills (including at CEO/Board level/Enterprise Leader level).
- Comfortable working within a highly ambiguous, dynamic and changing environment.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, taking full ownership and responsibility for own work; fully invested in achieving a successful result.
- High level of resilience in dealing with ambiguous and fast paced, evolving situation.
- High energy and tenacious. Able to work through complex and challenging problems through consistent application and determination.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- MBA or Accountancy (ACCA/ACA) qualified.
- Previous work experience in Financial Planning.
- Experience in the automotive or manufacturing sector is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of automotive market dynamics, industry trends and value drivers.
- Ability to leverage new age AI/ML to expedite the analysis of internal and external insights.
