Location: Peterborough - Hybrid Working 2-3 days in office weekly with at least 1 day presence require d in London hub office and 1 day in Peterborough office .

Lead the commercial strategy for one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes.
At Anglian Water, we’re delivering two multi-billion-pound reservoirs — the largest and most complex projects in our history — to secure a sustainable water future for millions. As our Head of Commercial, you’ll take the helm of the commercial function for this nationally significant programme, setting the strategy, shaping supplier relationships, and ensuring the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and governance.
This is a rare opportunity to provide strategic leadership in a dynamic matrix environment, overseeing supplier engagement, dispute resolution, and commercial performance, while championing best practice and fostering an inclusive, high-performing team. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and partners to ensure every aspect of the commercial workstream drives the programme — and Anglian Water — towards its ambitious goals.
As Head of Commercial , you will:
Build and lead a high-performing commercial team
Define and deliver the commercial strategy for the programme, ensuring the team has clear objectives, the right capabilities, and a collaborative, high-performance culture aligned to programme goals.
Implement robust commercial controls and assurance
Establish effective contractual and financial controls, commercial risk management, and assurance processes to ensure transparency, integrity, and value throughout the project lifecycle.
Drive commercial integrity, reporting, and continuous improvement
Safeguard Anglian Water’s commercial position by ensuring accurate reporting, managing risks and opportunities, benchmarking against best practice, and embedding innovation and efficiency into commercial processes.
Lead stakeholder and partner engagement on commercial matters
Act as the trusted point of contact for all commercial and contractual issues, fostering strong relationships with internal teams, delivery partners, regulators, and other key stakeholders, and ensuring clear, aligned communication across the programme.
What it takes to be successful?
We’re looking for a commercially astute and strategic leader who can define and deliver a clear commercial strategy while ensuring accuracy and efficiency in execution. You’ll have the ability to grasp and explain complex commercial matters to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, with excellent communication skills that resonate across all levels of the organisation. Highly organised and self-motivated, you can structure priorities, manage your own workload effectively, and keep others focused on what matters most. Above all, you’ll inspire, support, and energise those around you to deliver critical outcomes and achieve shared goals.
Skills and qualifications:
A degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline, with MRICS (or equivalent) professional qualification.
Proven experience in a senior or strategic commercial role, ideally within major infrastructure programmes (£500m+), with a strong track record of shaping and delivering commercial strategies.
Expertise in standard forms of contract and innovative commercial/financing models, including PPP, SIPR, and DPC.
Significant experience leading large teams (30+) within complex, matrix organisational structures, fostering a high-performance and aligned culture.
Demonstrable success working on mega-projects in the water or wider infrastructure sector, engaging with senior and board-level stakeholders.
Strong project financing knowledge, coupled with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence at all levels.
