We are seeking a Head of Commercial to shape and lead the strategic direction of the commercial function within Story Plant. This new, pivotal role comes at an exciting time in our growth and will support the integration of our Geotechnical team as well as our 4 regional depots. Driving a culture of robust commercial management, strong client relationships and technical excellence and working as part of a small leadership team, you will have the autonomy to develop both the team and commercial processes to align with future needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial strategy across the Plant Division, supporting operational teams to set strong work bank forecasts with the objective of minimising risks, maximising opportunities and avoiding contractual disputes
  • Drive robust decision-making through analytical insight and commercial acumen
  • Strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships and ensure effective contract management
  • Champion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and commercial excellence within Operational teams

Key Skills & Experience

  • First and foremost, you are a proactive team player with exceptional interpersonal skills to fit within a small, tight knit leadership team
  • Proven experience of leading and developing a commercial team
  • Excellent working knowledge of the plant hire, infrastructure, construction or rail sectors
  • Ability to coach, mentor and develop teams across the business to increase their commercial acumen and understanding
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships with existing and new clients and suppliers
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail focusing on less is more to present robust and value-added commercial information
  • Exceptional influence and negotiation capabilities
  • Ability to set vision, targets, and execute plans and create a healthy spirit of accountability
  • Ability to create business cases / investment proposals and a natural desire to innovate
  • Experience of working with a variety of contract types and negotiating contractual terms
  • IT literate and proficient in Microsoft Office package as a minimum
  • Ability to deliver a strategic commercial role, formal qualifications in commercial or business management are desirable rather than essential

Location

Location is flexible across our Salsburgh, Carlisle, Birmingham and Beckingham Depots with regular travel to Carlisle expected.
