The Role
We’re hiring a Head of Credit & Risk to lead our underwriting and credit risk function within the loan division. This role is pivotal to ensuring we balance strong growth with robust lending decisions, governance, and compliance. Now’s the time to bring in a specialist new role with real-world experience in the alternative loans and lending space.
We’re looking for someone who knows the alternative funding space, has seen the challenges of scaling loan books responsibly, and can lead both people and process to deliver results.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and refine credit risk strategies that align with Love Finance’s lending appetite.
- Leadership & Oversight: Lead a team of experienced underwriters, providing coaching, direction, and decision support.
- Product Development: Work with cross-functional teams to design and roll out new loan products tailored to SME needs.
- Use data-driven approaches, algorithms, metrics, and portfolio analytics to monitor performance, early warning signs, and trends
- Systems & Process Improvement: Own and optimise LMS system, driving automation where possible and ensuring smooth operational processes
- Compliance & Regulation: Stay ahead of FCA requirements, legislation changes, and ensure marketing and lending practices remain compliant in the short-term lending space
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with Finance for reporting, forecasting, and aligning on funding and risk appetite
- Work closely with tech and data teams as well as previous experience using funding platforms
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a senior credit or risk role within the alternative lending, SME lending, or short-term finance space
- Someone who has “been there and done it” with underwriting, policy development, and credit decisioning
- Strong knowledge of lending systems – bonus if familiar with LTI or similar LMS platforms
- Hands-on experience managing underwriting teams and coaching talent
- Confident communicator who can liaise across departments and present to senior stakeholders
- Deep understanding of the current lending market, including competitor products and pricing strategies
