Aim of the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Development & Systems to lead the transformation of our core business systems. Our current Laravel system, in place for over 10 years, is business-critical but requires significant modernisation to support our fast-growing organisation. This role will be pivotal in evolving our technology landscape to ensure scalability, reliability, and efficiency across all business functions.

The successful candidate will define the technology roadmap, lead a talented development team, and oversee system architecture improvements while ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of existing systems. You will balance strategic innovation with operational excellence, ensuring we continue to meet the demands of a global, high-growth company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the long-term technology strategy, driving modernisation of our monolithic Laravel system into a scalable, future-ready architecture.
  • Lead and mentor the development and systems team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align system development with business objectives, ensuring technology enables rapid growth.
  • Ensure system reliability, security, and performance across all business-critical functions.
  • Manage third-party technology partnerships and vendors where relevant.
  • Oversee the delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Introduce best practices in Laravel development, system integration, and DevOps to improve efficiency and resilience.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a senior development, systems, or IT leadership role, ideally within a scaling or high-growth organisation.
  • Strong track record of managing and modernising Laravel-based monolithic systems.
  • Deep understanding of system architecture, PHP frameworks, software development lifecycle, and enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic vision with immediate operational priorities.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with experience building and scaling technical teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical audiences.
