Overview

Head of Engineering for Kraken Frontend Platform leads the engineering, architecture, and delivery of Kraken’s frontend foundations. You will own the teams building Blueprint (UI libraries), Flapjack (mobile SDK and mobile enablement), and Tako (design system / support-site frontend), while collaborating with the Design team to ensure consistency and accessibility across all experiences. This is a pivotal leadership role to unify frontend capabilities across web and mobile, elevate accessibility, performance, and developer experience, and help define how Kraken scales its user experience across both consumer- and agent-facing applications.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the technical vision and roadmap for the Kraken Frontend Platform (web and mobile)
  • Lead, mentor, and scale teams (leads, engineers, design) across Blueprint, Flapjack, and Support-Site/Tako
  • Ensure alignment between engineering, design, product, and wider org goals
  • Advocate and enforce best practices (architecture, testing, performance, accessibility, security)
  • Lead architecture decisions for shared frontend and mobile app enablement (React, Kotlin/native, design tokens, theming, component reuse)
  • Drive cross-cutting concerns like accessibility (WCAG AA+), internationalisation, performance, and scalability
  • Build systems and processes for component reuse, SDK distribution, mobile app integration, and backward compatibility
  • Ensure high quality, maintainability, and test coverage across all codebases (web + mobile)

What you’ll have

  • 8+ years of web-app or mobile-app engineering experience, including large-scale production systems
  • 2+ years in a leadership/management role in frontend or platform engineering
  • Deep technical knowledge in React (or similar frameworks), Kotlin/native mobile, design systems, component libraries
  • Strong experience in architecting reusable libraries
  • Proven track record driving accessibility, performance, and scalability across frontend and mobile systems
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and deployment pipelines for both web and mobile
  • Bringing together web and mobile disciplines identifying opportunities for cross-collaboration
  • Hiring/recruitment to meet business needs
  • Managing team performance
  • Responsibility for ensuring frontend platform delivery and expectations
  • Communication with both internal and external client stakeholders
