Interim Head of Finance - London Borough Council

Contract: Interim | 6 Months

Rate: £600 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: Hybrid - London office (minimum 2 days per week)

Start Date: Mid-December 2023

About The Role

Panoramic Associates are working with a London Borough Council to recruit an experienced Interim Head of Finance to provide leadership and stability during a critical transition period. This is a high-profile role, reporting into Senior Finance Management, with responsibility for guiding a newly restructured team and delivering key statutory processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Q3 Budget Monitoring process.
• Finalise Budget Papers for Council and Leadership Team in February.
• Oversee and support Year-End Closure.
• Manage and mentor a small finance team.
• Provide clear, imperative financial messaging tailored for senior leadership and political members.
• Challenge assumptions and ensure robust financial governance across directorates.

What We're Looking For

• Local Government finance expertise - significant, recent experience is essential.
• Proven track record of leading finance teams (minimum 2-3 staff).
• Strong stakeholder management - confident in engaging senior leadership and political members.
• Skilled at translating complex finance into clear, accessible messaging for non-finance audiences.
• A hands‑on, proactive, and resilient - able to challenge directors and senior managers effectively.
