Overview

We are looking for a Head of Hardware Compliance & Quality to lead a cross functional team and ensure our kids’ consumer electronics are designed and manufactured to meet international safety, regulatory and quality standards. The ideal candidate will be based in London and will initially report to the VP of Engineering, moving to the Director of Hardware once hired.

Yoto is a screen-free interactive audio platform for kids. We make carefully connected audio players that kids control, with no microphones, cameras or ads. We have a catalogue of audio that inspires creative play and learning with 1,000+ titles in our card store from top creators, publishers and labels - think Disney, Marvel, Roald Dahl and Universal Music. What you’ll be doing

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all product compliance and quality matters, defining and driving our international compliance strategy.
  • Lead an existing team of two direct reports and others from Manufacturing and Supply, and manage third party consultants with ultimate ownership of product compliance labelling, external testing, certification and technical documentation.
  • Own, monitor and analyse hardware compliance and quality data, conduct root cause investigations, and implement preventative and corrective actions.
  • As a senior member of the Hardware team, work in partnership with engineering, product and manufacturing teams to integrate compliance and quality requirements throughout product development (Design Quality Engineering) and throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with senior cross-functional stakeholders across legal, customer happiness, product and growth teams to embed compliance by design, and foster a culture of proactive quality enhancement.
  • Oversee supplier quality management and quality control processes, including regular audits, evaluations, and ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management systems, ensuring compliance and audit readiness.
  • Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes, including FMEA, control plans, and risk assessments.
  • Interpret and apply international standards; provide guidance to internal teams on regulatory requirements and best practices and ensure all products comply (e.g., EN71, ASTM F963, CPSIA, FCC, RoHS, REACH).
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes in consumer electronics and hardware, conduct regular horizon scanning and collaborate with internal stakeholders to prepare and implement new or updated requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience in compliance leadership and quality assurance for consumer electronics, hardware or toys.
  • Strong knowledge of international safety and regulatory standards, with experience managing external product testing and certification.
  • Proven people management experience, with a track record of leading and developing teams.
  • Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, partnering with internal teams to deliver safe, reliable and compliant products.
  • Background in supplier quality management and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with APQP and related quality planning tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed quality requirements and best practices into product design and development to deliver robust, reliable, and compliant products.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive in monitoring regulatory changes and adapting processes accordingly.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Salary

£90,000 - £105,000 based on experience
