Head of Infrastructure

Location: London

A leading trading firm is seeking an experienced Head of Infrastructure to lead and scale its UK and global trading infrastructure. This senior leadership role will drive the firm’s AWS migration from on-premise systems, build greenfield environments, integrate them with existing platforms, and oversee both cloud and on-prem IT operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure
  • Oversee AWS migration from on-premise infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability
  • Build out greenfield infrastructure environments and plan seamless integration with existing systems
  • Own the full IT infrastructure stack, including Active Directory, Microsoft services, networking, and on-prem systems
  • Configure and maintain firewalls, routers, and switches to ensure security, reliability, and optimal performance across production and disaster recovery environments
  • Lead cybersecurity initiatives focused on network segmentation, access control, and intrusion prevention
  • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing infrastructure and DevOps team, fostering a culture of excellence, automation, and reliability
  • Partner with software engineers, quantitative researchers, traders, and risk teams to deliver stable, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions
  • Drive automation initiatives using CloudFormation and Ansible to enhance resilience, reduce operational overhead, and maintain compliance with regulatory and security standards
  • Monitor and optimise system performance, cost, and reliability across production, staging, and development environments

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 7+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud architecture, or DevOps within high-performance trading or capital markets environments
  • Proven experience building and leading infrastructure or DevOps teams
  • Hands‑on expertise in AWS architecture, migration, and hybrid (cloud + on‑prem) environments
  • Deep technical background in network design, routing, switching, and firewall configuration
  • Strong understanding of network latency, throughput, and optimisation for trading systems
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark, NetFlow, Nagios, SolarWinds)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align technology with business objectives

Core Skills & Technologies

  • Advanced AWS expertise (EC2, Lambda, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudFormation, CloudTrail, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, etc.)
  • Configuration management and automation using CloudFormation
  • CI/CD pipeline management with GitLab CI
  • Advanced networking: BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, MPLS, SD-WAN, and cross-region connectivity
  • Firewall administration (Cisco ASA or similar) and network access control
  • Monitoring, logging, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, ECS, etc.)
  • Linux and Windows systems administration
  • IT infrastructure management: Active Directory, Microsoft services, networking, and on-prem systems
  • Security, compliance, and disaster recovery in cloud and hybrid environments
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, or similar)
