The role
As Head of Legal, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious defence infrastructure programmes. You’ll provide strategic legal guidance across a portfolio of major facility development projects including the design, build and commissioning of docking and berthing facilities for Astute Class submarine maintenance.
Day-to-day, you’ll provide strategic legal counsel across the business, managing legal matters efficiently.
- Advise Directors, Managers and staff on legal and governance matters across the UK and internationally.
- Manage legal issues efficiently, liaising directly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of legal activities and decisions.
- Collaborate with external agencies, solicitors, and Babcock Group entities.
- Stay current with legal developments to ensure effective practice.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 1-2 days in the office/onsite and 3-4 days working from home. Travel to other sites occasionally is required.
Essential experience of the Head of Legal – Nuclear Infrastructure
- Extensive post-qualification experience in construction and major project contracting.
- Strong knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts and Construction Law.
- Proven experience in contract negotiation and supply chain flow down.
- Expertise in dispute resolution and litigation within the construction industry.
- Experience in the nuclear sector and public sector contracting is advantageous.
Qualifications for the Head of Legal – Nuclear Infrastructure
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in England or Wales.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
