About Mller Milk & Ingredients Division (MMID)

Mller Milk & Ingredients is the UKs leading producer and distributor of fresh milk, cream, butter, and dairy ingredients. MMID operates a nationwide logistics and manufacturing network, delivering over 1 billion litres of milk annually to more than 6,000 locations. We are committed to operational excellence, sustainability, and supporting British agriculture.

We are now seeking a strategic and transformational leader to join our team as Head of Operations MMID. This is a high-impact, field-based role responsible for driving operational performance, leading change, and aligning site-level execution with group-wide strategy.

  • Pattern: Monday Friday (40 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Align site strategies with overall Group objectives to deliver world-class performance in safety, quality, service, cost, and people.
  • Lead the development and execution of long-term operational plans, ensuring alignment with MMID's commercial and supply chain goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement through benchmarking, KPI tracking, and cost-competitive initiatives.

Performance & Financial Management

  • Full ownership of site-level financial performance, including budget delivery, cost control, and profit improvement.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce cost, maximise yield, and improve labour efficiency.
  • Provide governance for major capital projects and oversee asset optimisation.

Change & Transformation

  • Lead cross-functional change initiatives across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Engineering.
  • Champion continuous improvement methodologies such as:
    • Kaizen (continuous, incremental improvement)
    • Kanban (visual workflow management)
    • SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Dies rapid equipment changeovers)
    • SIC (Short Interval Control frequent performance reviews)
    • 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain)
    • Six Sigma (data-driven process improvement)

People & Culture

  • Inspire and engage site teams to deliver stretching KPIs through clear communication, recognition, and development plans.
  • Build high-performing teams, manage succession planning, and lead talent development across operational functions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Customer & Commercial Focus

  • Partner with Commercial and New Product Development (NPD) teams to ensure operational readiness for new product launches and customer requirements.
  • Act as a senior ambassador for MMID, supporting customer relationships and site visits.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of excellent service and compliance with customer and regulatory standards.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, Food Safety, and Regulatory standards.
  • Lead environmental initiatives and sustainability projects in line with MMID's ESG commitments.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven leadership in complex, high-volume manufacturing or logistics environments.
  • Strong financial acumen, including profit and loss (P&L) ownership and capital project governance.
  • Expertise in operational strategy, systems thinking, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading transformational change across people, process, and systems.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across matrixed, multi-stakeholder environments.
