Overview

Head of Operations — Manchester-based FinTech startup delivering flexible payment plan solutions. Salary: £50,000-£60,000 per year. Location: Manchester (office-based initially, hybrid once embedded).

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver the operations strategy across customer, merchant, risk, and compliance functions
• Build and lead operational teams, hiring and mentoring talent as the company scales
• Implement KPIs, SLAs, and dashboards to monitor performance and drive efficiency
• Collaborate with product and tech to automate processes and integrate AI where valuable
• Ensure compliance with regulations including payments, KYC, and AML
• Manage budgets, vendors, and resources effectively
• Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across the business

Qualifications

• 5+ years in senior operations roles, ideally in FinTech, BNPL, payments, or high-growth startups
• Experience scaling operations and building teams from early stage upwards
• Strong knowledge of payments, compliance, and regulatory requirements
• Data-driven, tech-savvy, with understanding of automation and AI tools
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Hands-on approach — strategic thinker who can also roll up sleeves
