The Head of Production plays a central role in shaping, leading, and delivering Rick Shiels Media’s filming and production output throughout the year. This is a hands‑on position that combines production management, technical camera operation, and team leadership. The role demands creative problem‑solving, exceptional organisation, and the ability to manage every aspect of production from concept to delivery while maintaining technical quality, budget control, and team efficiency.

This is a 12-month fixed‑term role, ideal for an experienced production professional with a strong understanding of both creative and technical workflows within media and sports.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning & Scheduling

  • Lead the planning, organisation, and scheduling of all filming trips worldwide throughout the year.
  • Manage Rick’s diary in collaboration with the leadership team, ensuring efficient use of filming and production time.
  • Translate creative ideas from the media team into detailed production plans, shot lists, and schedules.

Production Management

  • Oversee all aspects of production logistics, including travel, accommodation, transport, golf courses, equipment, guests, and permissions.
  • Serve as the lead camera operator during shoots, ensuring consistency, creativity, and high‑quality visual standards.
  • Manage and track production and equipment budgets, making recommendations for upgrades, repairs, and investments.
  • Implement and maintain content backup and archiving systems to ensure footage is securely stored and easily retrievable.
  • Anticipate challenges and proactively problem‑solve to keep productions running smoothly.
  • Lead, support, and mentor the production and camera teams to deliver exceptional results on every project.
  • Foster a collaborative working environment, ensuring clear communication and role clarity both on and off set.
  • Work closely with Rick and the wider media team to align creative vision with production execution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, guests, and venues.
  • Uphold professional standards for safety, conduct, and technical quality across all shoots.

Travel & Logistics

  • Coordinate and manage travel for Rick and the production team during filming on the road.
  • Maintain oversight of production budgets, itineraries, and schedules, ensuring efficient planning and delivery.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience as a producer, production manager, or senior camera operator within a media or sports environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in camera operation, lighting, and production workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience managing production budgets and equipment procurement.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide others in fast‑paced environments.
  • Knowledge of data management and backup processes to safeguard all filmed content.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • A solid understanding of the golf and sports media industry.
  • Calm, adaptable, and solutions‑focused under pressure.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Extensive global travel with several weeks per year
  • Must hold a clean valid UK Driving license and access to own vehicle
  • An interest in golf is desirable but not essential
