Head of Technical Delivery - Cosmetics & Skincare
Are you ready to rethink your routine? We are looking for a Head of Technical Delivery to join our NPD team. Reporting into our Chief Innovation Officer, you will lead the technical delivery of new cosmetic products and manage a small technical team.
This position will be responsible for managing the technical delivery of new products (NPD), including formulation development, product claim substantiation, and the maintenance and compliance of our existing portfolio (EPD). You will work closely with external development laboratories and 3rd‑party vendors, overseeing formula development across skincare and makeup, leading technical troubleshooting, and ensuring Trinny London products meet the highest technical and quality standards.
You will be part of the Senior Leadership team within NPD & Operations and work closely with key functions to deliver our fast‑paced, complex programme of launches.
The Role
- Technical Product Leadership – Oversee the entire product lifecycle from formulation to market launch in both skincare and makeup categories, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Lead and develop a team of technical chemists and scientists, providing guidance on formulation development and product claim substantiation.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical challenges relating to product development and existing product portfolios.
- Ensure all products meet regulatory requirements for all relevant markets and sales channels, and implement strategies for continuous portfolio compliance.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams (e.g., NPD, Packaging, Product Integrity, Operations) and external partners.
- Manage the technical budget for relevant cost centres and approve invoices.
- Collaborate with Regulatory and Packaging teams to develop and maintain robust technical policies, supplier requirements, and testing procedures.
- Work with stakeholders to define and translate technical specifications of product briefs for third‑party laboratories and vendors.
- Provide technical input for the evaluation and selection of third‑party suppliers.
- Ensure timely approval of formulas and raw materials, verifying compliance with market regulations and internal policies.
- Oversee successful scale‑up, manage troubleshooting during these phases, and confirm products are suitable for manufacture.
- Establish and implement appropriate testing requirements for all products, setting quality assurance standards in conjunction with quality, packaging, and NPD teams.
- Provide final sign‑off on formula and claims testing for Gate 3 approvals, ensuring final specifications and quality standards are met.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date technical product administration.
- Ensure raw material compliance with company blacklists and market regulations.
- Act as guardian of product safety and monitor cosmetovigilance activities.
- Support NPD team in crafting compelling technical product stories.
- Participate in and arrange technical accredited audits where necessary.
Requirements
- A scientific degree in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or fundamental science (chemistry, biology, or biochemistry).
- Significant, demonstrable experience in skincare and makeup technical development.
- Strong project management experience.
- Experience in scale‑up, manufacturing, and stability.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop relationships and communicate at all levels of management.
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to anticipating issues and providing solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with high creativity and attention to detail.
- Speed to market and ability to work in a fast‑paced, start‑up environment.
- Results orientated, capable of utilising organisational resources to achieve goals.
