Role

Head of Technical Learning is a key member of the Portfolio, Investment and Business Services Leadership Team. Acting as the central point of accountability for all aspects of technical learning across Technical Services (TS), this role shapes a learning culture aligned to TS's long-term business objectives. The role leads the Technical Training Services (TTS) team, ensuring training design and delivery evolve in line with regulatory standards, business needs and technological advancement. This includes governing engineering competency as Business Process Owner (BPO) and embedding the new engineering apprenticeship scheme. The Head of Technical Learning will deliver the remainder of the 5-year learning transformation plan, integrate it with wider transformation initiatives, and enhance the impact of learning across TS. Central to this role is driving innovation in learning practice, modernising content and delivery methods, and developing commercial opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership - represent Portfolio, Investment and Business Services at a leadership level, role modelling core values and behaviours in internal and external forums across the directorate
  • Lead and inspire the TS Team to drive innovation and creativity in the development and delivery of effective and efficient training, while balancing the continued delivery of existing training to ensure engineering competency is met
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across NATS, suppliers, customers, professional bodies and regulatory authorities
  • Drive learning transformation, embedding modern learning technologies and aligning with capital projects. Manage supply and demand effectively alongside multiple incoming requirements
  • Lead development of external training services, enhancing commercial revenue while operating within OPEX constraints
  • Ensure all Technical Training activities comply with UK and international regulations and relevant statutory requirements

Essential Experience

  • Formal qualification at Degree level or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience
  • Proven leadership within complex transformation programmes, balancing strategic and tactical demands
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing at all levels including internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong, credible impact, with a demonstrated capability to resolve conflict; build, maintain and utilise relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimum business goals
