Overview

Head of UK Construction at Everest. This position is based in the London office with a hybrid schedule that has the option of working two days remotely each week.

Role Purpose

You will be responsible for the profitable growth of the UK Construction portfolio as part of the UK Energy and Construction team. You will report to the UK E&C Underwriting Manager with a matrix reporting line to the Head of Construction, International.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the underwriting, strategic direction and profitable growth of the EII UK Construction Portfolio. Identify segments of business to develop and Underwriting strategies and guidelines to support growth.
  • Utilise Company and Syndicate platforms to access in appetite business, writing London Market Wholesale and Retail business.
  • Cultivate and sustain effective relationships with key brokers and clients.
  • Collaborate with E&C colleagues and across various lines of business to promote and succeed in cross-sell opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Claims, Loss Control, Accounting).
  • Support the Head of Construction across projects such as pricing tool development, portfolio analysis and monitoring, and Regional strategies and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with Risk Engineering to develop risk assessment criteria and promote risk engineering capabilities.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for process improvement and efficiency, recommending and implementing new procedures and programs.
  • Work with Underwriting colleagues on E&C Reinsurance Treaty structure and execution, in coordination with the Head of Energy and Construction and Ceded Re.

Skills & Abilities

  • Held Senior Underwriting roles, with experience in Industrial and Civil Infrastructure Construction Projects.
  • A technical background in both EAR and CAR.
  • Experience across London Market Wholesale and Retail construction business.
  • Proven ability to thrive within complex, matrixed organisations, navigating across multiple functions and levels.
  • Expertise in establishing and nurturing relationships with brokers, clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading teams through change, fostering resilience and a high performing collaborative environment.
  • Ability to take calculated risks with favourable outcomes.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strategic acumen to identify opportunities and threats through analysis of current and future trends.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making using logic and objectivity.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal controls and external regulations.
