We are looking for a Head of Underwriting Construction MidCorp (m/f/d), based in Munich or London. The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Global Head of Construction at Allianz Commercial, you will be responsible for the management, portfolio steering and growth of the Construction Midcorp business. In conjunction with each local entity you will develop and execute Construction Underwriting strategy, and steer the Construction portfolio.

Some Of Your Specific Responsibilities Could Include

  • Establish and maintain a robust Underwriting and approval process to ensure a rigorous and efficient system for assessing and approving transactions and steering of Underwriting Construction MidCorp.
  • Develop and execute Underwriting strategy, segmentation and risk appetite for Construction MidCorp identifying market opportunities, target segments and clients.
  • Act as a key decision-maker in transaction approvals, utilizing your expertise and understanding of the guidelines and principles set forth in the Underwriting Governance framework to make informed decisions that align with the risk appetite of Construction MidCorp.
  • In alignment with our Integrated Commercial strategy, recommend new and revised products and programs, underwriting standards and procedures, and provide guidance on pricing within the regions. Drive development and implementation of pricing tools.
  • Provide training and support to underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Steer and control the Construction MidCorp portfolio to achieve financial targets and collaborate with Regional MDs and Line of Business heads to optimise transaction activity.
  • Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary).

What You’ll Bring To The Role

  • Proven technical expert in Construction business, with significant experience in the international insurance market.
  • Technical Construction knowledge as well as knowledge of the insurance industry, intermediary operations, insurance laws and general business operations and comprehensive technical knowledge of Construction products, coverages, underwriting practices, pricing processes and sales distribution channels.
  • Portfolio Management experience.
  • Substantial experience and successful track record in Underwriting process design and improvement.
  • In depth understanding of global and local insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  • Proven track record in interacting and providing direction to multi-discipline teams (underwriting, pricing, legal, claims, business analysis). Ability to manage international project teams effectively to successful conclusion, without direct managerial authority.
  • Experience working in complex, global matrix organization and excellent intercultural skills.
  • Ability to develop, implement and communicate strategies to address important trends or changes in the business.
  • Expertise in integrating AI into various business functions, enhancing efficiency, and fostering a culture of data-driven innovation.
  • Excellent influencing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent English skills
