About the role

Balfour Beatty has a new opportunity for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to join our UK Construction Services - Regional Civils Business within the Central region.

The Midlands has a wide range of projects across our primary sectors of highways, transportation and flood & coastal. This is an ideal opportunity for you to be part of a Balfour Beatty business unit delivering projects that range from minor works to major infrastructure projects

The HSW Manager will manage a team of HSW Advisors across the region and will provide risk-based assurance to ensure that projects in the area are compliant with HS&W requirements and achieving our Zero Harm objectives.

What you'll be doing

As the HS&W Manager (Lead) you will work with the Head of HSW and be responsible for the HSW Advisors in your region and work alongside the C&SE Operation Area Leadership Team to: -

• Provide risk-based assurance that projects in the area are compliant with HS&W requirements of UK regulatory framework and the UK Business Management System (BMS).
• Collaboratively engage with both internal & external customers as well as the Supply Chain
• Engage and develop relationships with design & engineering teams to eliminate and reduce risk through HS&W By Design.
• Embed a positive culture where health is treated like safety.
• Challenge the norm by innovating and improving the way we work, whilst keeping pace with industry change and promoting best practice.
• Embed the Business Unit HS&W Strategy through visible felt leadership in line with Zero Harm Vision.
• Support the Head of HS&W in the development of statistical & trend analysis.
• Support work winning teams with quality & innovative HS&W responses for bids,
  proposals and PQQs.
• Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in
  accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and BMS Requirements.
• In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk-based Service Level Agreement with each project which is kept under monthly review.
• Undertake programmed HS&W support visits to operational projects to provide support and advice to local project management teams and operatives.
• Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned HS&W inspections which review project performance against the UK HS&W Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System (BMS) requirements.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are required:

• NEBOSH H&S Diploma, NVQ, Degree OR equivalent level 6 qualification.
• CMIOSH.
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) competence.
• Hold OR be willing & able to undergo security clearance through United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV)
• Strong understanding of CDM2015 - Roles and Responsibilities.
• Competence in incident investigation.
• Demonstrable experience in a health and safety advisory role within construction.
• Strong health and safety legal knowledge and practical application.
• Experience of delivery of HS&W training.
• Proven ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture.
• Demonstrate ability to develop and implement risk free environment using best work practices and innovations.
• Proven track record delivering H&S support to multiple project teams.
• Ability to prepare formal written reports and publications on HSES topics and statistics.
• An exemplary communicator and able to build and maintain positive professional
  relationships at all levels.

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

• Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and or 14001)
• Experience in working within defence and nuclear environments
