Design phase (approx. 9 months, possibility to extend to the Procurement & Construction Phase)
Travel Requirements:
Frequent travel to client site in Scotland – remote-working candidates must be UK‑eligible
Responsibilities:
- Lead development and maintenance of the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) during the design phase of an EPC contract.
- Ensure all design deliverables fully comply with UK/Scotland H&S legislation and best practices.
- Provide H&S input for design reviews, risk assessments, and method statements, particularly for civil, structural, and dam-related engineering.
- Attend client meetings on-site in Scotland to present H&S design integration and coordinate with design teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, environmental, and client teams to embed safety requirements early in design stages.
- Identify hazards associated with dam construction, tunnelling, powerhouse design, and underground works; deliver mitigation strategies.
- Prepare H&S documentation, reports, and risk assessments, ensuring traceability through design iterations.
- Support internal and client-led audits of design H&S compliance, manage corrective actions.
- Deliver toolbox talks or H&S briefings as needed for stakeholders or subcontractors involved in design-to-build transition.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years H&S experience within design phase of large civil/infra infrastructure/EPC contracts, preferably hydro power.
- In-depth understanding of UK’s Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, CDM Regulations, and relevant Scottish regulations.
- Proven experience in embedding H&S in design—risk studies, method statements, and safety-by-design.
- Experience with pumped-storage hydro, dams, tunnels, or heavy civil/infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills in English; ability to present confidently at client design review meetings.
- Must be available for frequent travel across Scotland; UK work eligibility required if not resident.
