Overview
We are looking for an experienced and driven CDM Advisor to provide support to clients within multiple sectors including water, energy, defence, and the built environment.
Responsibilities
- Nationwide delivery of CDM/H&S services for a diverse client base.
- Provide advice on practical application of H&S legislation, best practice and CDM.
- Assist clients on the competence of Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.
- Advise third parties on compliance with CDM roles.
- Review and comment on key CDM documentation (PCI, design risk assessment, Construction Phase Plan, F10, H&S File).
- Facilitate and undertake Health & Safety by Design reviews (HAZID, HAZCON, HAZOP).
- Attend design and client meetings to advise on hazards/risk at pre‑construction and construction stages.
- Support Designers and Principal Designers with application of CDM Principles of Prevention.
- Conduct site safety inspections, audits, and accident investigations.
- Maintain own workload and support bidding/proposal writing.
- Liaise with stakeholders (regulatory bodies, clients, Designers, Contractors).
- Draft Health & Safety arrangements, Pre‑Construction Information and Health and Safety Files.
- Advising on gaps in pre‑construction information.
- Internal roles of Project Safety Advisor and Principal Designer Advisor.
Qualifications
- Flexible travel within UK.
- Experience on large scale projects in defence, water, energy and built environment sectors.
- Passion for H&S management and construction risk management.
- Practical knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
- HNC or equivalent in engineering, construction or project management discipline, or significant experience.
- NEBOSH National General and/or Construction Certificate.
- Extensive CDM/health and safety consultancy experience.
- Experience in multidisciplinary consultancy environment.
- CertIOSH preferred; TechIOSH minimum.
- Proactive, organised, effective time‑management.
- Excellent client‑facing and communication skills.
- Experience of site H&S inspections and audits.
- Good technical/report writing skills.
- Experience delivering training and presentations.
Preferred but not required
- NEBOSH diploma/degree/NVQ in health and safety.
- Membership of the Institute for Occupational Health & Safety.
- Membership of the Association for Project Safety.
- Membership of an engineering‑related institution.
- Experience in Client, Principal Contractor and Principal Designer organisations.
- Teaching or adult learning qualification.
Other Information
Due to project nature, British nationality may be required. Offers may be conditional upon obtaining appropriate security clearance.
