Honorary Treasurer – Volunteer

The Scar Free Foundation is a medical research charity dedicated to achieving scar-free healing. We are seeking a qualified finance professional to join our Board as Honorary Treasurer, providing strategic financial oversight and governance.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure the charity’s finances are well managed and our governance remains robust.
  • Interpret performance, assess financial risks and opportunities, and support confident strategic decisions.
  • Lead the Finance & Operations Committee, guide trustees through key financial issues, and ensure the Board fulfills its legal responsibilities under charity and company law.
  • Help shape budgets, forecasts and investment decisions that balance ambition with long‑term sustainability.
  • Ensure the Board receives clear, accurate and timely financial information; oversee audit processes and liaise with external auditors.

Qualifications

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) or a senior finance professional with substantial experience in financial management, risk or audit.
  • Comfortable analysing and explaining financial information to non‑financial trustees.
  • Strategic outlook with the ability to balance ambition and sustainability.
  • Experience in governance, risk management and compliance; familiarity with charity or not‑for‑profit reporting standards preferred.
  • Integrity, independence of thought and commitment to good governance.
  • Collaborative communicator, willing to contribute beyond finance to wider board discussions.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in investment or reserves management.
  • Understanding of charity accounting, SORP and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with charity fundraising, grant management or philanthropic partnerships.
  • Connections or networks that could help build the charity’s reach or influence.
  • Experience of board or committee leadership, ideally as a Chair or Treasurer elsewhere.

Personal Attributes

  • Clarity of judgement to focus discussion on key strategic and financial issues.
  • Curiosity and engagement, willingness to learn about our research and its real‑world impact.
  • Team spirit, contributing constructively to a small, dedicated Board where every trustee plays an active role.

Time Commitment

Four Board meetings and four Finance & Operations Committee meetings per year (weekday afternoons, London/hybrid), plus occasional engagement between meetings.
