The Housing Department:

Ranked by Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, the Housing team handles both publicly and privately funded matters, advising landlords and tenants on a wide range of housing disputes. These include homelessness, disrepair, possession and eviction, succession rights, neighbour disputes, and debt issues. The team is regularly instructed in judicial review cases and represents clients at all levels of court, including the High Court.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Housing Solicitor to join our growing team. The successful candidate will manage a varied housing caseload, support junior staff, and contribute to the ongoing development of the department. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of housing matters including homelessness, disrepair, eviction, succession, and property‑related disputes
  • Supervise and support trainees and caseworkers
  • Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and manage correspondence
  • Handle both legal aid and private housing cases
  • Provide advocacy where appropriate and attend court hearings
  • Maintain compliance with file management and billing procedures
  • Attend clients, take instructions, and provide clear legal advice
  • Support the firm’s Housing Court Duty Scheme
  • Contribute to business development and marketing where required

Candidate Requirements

  • UK qualified solicitor with a valid practising certificate
  • Minimum 1 year’s PQE in housing law (guideline only)
  • Proven supervisory experience and ability to support team development
  • Experience with publicly funded housing work (legal help and representation)
  • Confident handling a broad range of housing disputes
  • Excellent client care, organisation, and communication skills
  • A proactive and professional approach with strong attention to detail
  • Competent using Microsoft Office and case management systems
