Wood Transmission and Distribution is seeking an established Project HSSESQ Manager to join our growing business. As a leading provider of engineering and construction services to the UK transmission and distribution sector, we are at the forefront of net zero 2050 with a secured workstream for years to come.
The Role
- To manage the application of Occupational Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, Sustainability and Quality (HSSESQ) principles, systems, and measures throughout the project life cycle.
- To be responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to HSSESQ with respect to Legislation, Company Policy and Management System and Client requirements, thereby reducing risks to the business.
- To engage with and present to project leaders information and data to enable preventive interventions.
- To ensure compliance with the Wood Business Management System and compliance through a structured assurance program.
- This position has a broad scope and applies to a single project in the Scottish Highlands, and will be responsible for the project HSSESQ team.

- Supporting the management of all aspects of HSSESQ across the breadth of their respective organization and the services we provide.
- Identification and regular engagement with key stakeholders to gather feedback on team performance.
- Support the effective planning and allocation of resources (including people and budgets) enabling the delivery of agreed objectives and deliverables.
- Implementing the Wood Business Management System (BMS) across their organization ensuring that its application is effective and that compliance with the system is routinely monitored, assessed, and improved as necessary
- Providing support/coaching and guidance in incident investigations, to include Quality, Safety and Environmental, through the use of an appropriate Investigation process (e.g. Helix or Taproot)
- Ensuring consistent and effective implementation of Quality supporting systems across their organization (e.g., NCR, improvement actions, lessons learned, etc).
- Planning and execution of risk-based assurance plans including the escalation of significant findings to function head
- Monitoring and analysis of delivery performance data, regularly reporting themes and trends to project leaders, and undertaking intervention as required.
- Ensuring HSEQ support through Supply Chain processes to ensure the right first-time delivery of products and services
- Gathering and acting upon customer feedback ensuring action is taken to maintain and improve customer satisfaction.
- Provides constructive feedback & coaching to HSSESQ team conducting performance reviews
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree/diploma or local equivalent in related discipline (desirable)
- Lead Auditor qualification by a recognised industry body (essential)
- Membership to an industry body such as IOSH, CQI, IEMA etc (desirable)
- Formal training in recognized root cause analysis techniques (essential)
- 8+ years of relevant experience (preferably in the associated industry)
- Comprehensive understanding of industry standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
- Knowledge of OHSES standards and legal requirements
- Experience of working in and managing a Quality and HSE Management system environment
- Proficient in the analysis of processes and data
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- High Level of communication skills in both written and spoken format
- Proficient in the use of continuous improvement tools and techniques
- Knowledge of internal and external audits and third party certification audits practices
- Listens to understand and is able to articulate ideas and complex concepts clearly and convincingly to a wide range of audiences
- Expresses ideas clearly and concisely. Seeks to understand others perspectives. Keeps accurate and organized records
- Addresses substantive conflicts and facilitates timely resolution
